The Society, an original Netflix show created by Christopher Keyser, started airing on May 10, 2019.
Kathryn Newton, Gideon Adlon, Sean Berdy, Natasha Liu Bordizzo, Jacques Colimon, Olivia DeJonge, Alex Fitzalan, Kristine Froseth, Jose Julian, Alexander MacNicoll, Toby Wallace, and Rachel Keller are all part of the ensemble cast for Season 1.
The first season was supposed to be renewed, but because of the COVID-19 pandemic, it was canceled after only 10 episodes.
Is Season 2 of the Society Currently in Production?
When it came out in 2019, The Society, a Netflix original show that has been compared to Lord of the Flies, was a huge hit with subscribers. Everyone who liked the first season of the sci-fi mystery thriller The Society wondered why there doesn’t seem to be a second season.
In April 2020, it was announced that Netflix had renewed the show for a second season and that the long-awaited next chapter would come out in late 2020.
But Netflix said that The Society season 2 would not be made because of problems caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
The streaming network was happy with how well The Society did, according to THR. However, scheduling issues and higher costs to meet COVID-19 safety protocols, among other things, led Netflix to cancel the series.
The Society’s Second Season Has Been Canceled.
The good news is that on July 9, 2019, Netflix announced that there would be a second season of “The Society.”
Even though Netflix hasn’t made an official announcement, Deadline said on April 2 that the show would be back in late 2020. In short, fans were thrilled and were waiting with bated breath for the next season.
But on August 21, 2020, Deadline reported that Netflix had changed its mind and that the show will no longer be made.

Why Was the Show “The Society” Canceled?
Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, work on the show had to stop for a while, but it was expected to start again soon.
Several cast members have said that everyone on set has been getting ready to go back to work. But the COVID scenario may have sent production costs through the roof, and Netflix may now be rethinking its decision.
We’ve made the hard decision not to make second seasons of The Society, and I Am Not Okay With This, Netflix told Deadline.
“We’re disappointed that we have to make these decisions because COVID made them,” the statement says. “We’re grateful to these creators.”
“This includes Jonathan Entwistle, Christy Hall, Shawn Levy, Dan Levine, Dan Cohen, and Josh Barry at 21 Laps Entertainment for I Am Not Okay With This; Chris Keyser, Marc Webb, and Pavlina Hatoupis for The Society; and all the writers, casts, and crews who worked hard.”
Deadline said that the final decision had to do with “uncertainty about production schedules and managing the availability of a large ensemble like The Society” and “unexpected budget rises due to COVID.”
If Season 2 of the Society Had Been Made, How Would You Have Described It?
Before Netflix ended the show, there was no official synopsis for season 2, but based on how things ended, it’s easy to imagine where the story would have gone if the show had kept going.
Late in the game, the kids realized they were in a parallel universe to the one they had just left. Then, fans saw a memorial for the teens who had died, which showed them what the world looked like without the teens.
It seems clear that season 2 of The Society would have been about three things. Why this interdimensional mess is happening to them, how the missing kids will be found, and what is being done in West Ham to find out where their kids have gone?
It would have been interesting to see how things turn out, but for now, fans can only watch the first season, which is available on Netflix.
