Warner Bros. has confirmed that there will be a fourth Conjuring movie, but we don’t yet know when it will come out.
We will be back in The Conjuring universe next year, though. The Nun 2, the sequel to The Conjuring 2’s prequel about the evil nun Valak, is now being filmed.
We don’t know when the fourth Warrens book will come out, but we do know a few things about it. Back as producers are James Wan and Peter Safran, and David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick is writing the script.
The Conjuring 2 and 3 were written by Johnson-McGoldrick, so the new movie is in good hands.
So, while we wait for more information about The Conjuring 4, here’s everything you need to know, including real-life cases you might want to look into.
Is There Going to Be a Conjuring 4?
Warner Bros. hasn’t officially approved The Conjuring 4, but if a movie makes money, there’s a good chance there will be a sequel, and the Conjuring series has made a lot of money.
Stars Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga have said they would be willing to do more Conjuring movies, and if fans go see the third one (in theatres or on HBO Max) and show that they want more, then another one will be made.
You can bet that there will be a Conjuring 4, given how popular the series is and how many stories could be told.
A Possible Release Date for the Conjuring 4
As was already said, The Conjuring 4 is happening, but we don’t know when it will come out.
Between The Conjuring (July 2013) and The Conjuring 2 (June 2016), there were three years, and then there were five years until The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It. But at first, it was set to come out in September 2020, so that would have been four years.
The Cast of The Conjuring 4
Even though it hasn’t been confirmed, we’d be surprised if Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga didn’t come back as Ed and Lorraine Warren, since a Conjuring movie wouldn’t be the same without them.
They seem willing to go out again, so it shouldn’t be hard to get them to come back.
“Oh my God, I’d love to continue,” Farmiga said. “We always want to push these characters,” Wilson added. I would like to, if only because I want to keep playing against Vera.”
Farmiga also said in April 2021 that there is “definitely some talk of continuing,” so we’ll have to wait and see what happens there.
Other returns are harder to predict, especially since the third movie didn’t have many crossovers from the wider Conjuring universe.
Sterling Jerins was back as Judy Warren, Steve Coulter was back as Father Gordon, and Shannon Kook was back as Drew Thomas. All of them might show up in the fourth movie, but that’s probably the last time we’ll see them.
The Plot of Conjuring 4
After Arne Johnson’s trial is over in November 1981, the third movie ends, and we can assume that The Conjuring 4 will take place after this.
Still, the Warrens have had some interesting real-life cases that could be used as the basis for a new movie. For example, they could go back into a haunted house.
In 1986, the Warrens went to the Snedeker house and the Smurl Haunting to look into two haunted houses. The first one vaguely influenced The Haunting in Connecticut, and both were about houses that people thought were full of demons.
But after the third movie broke away from the haunted house formula, going back to one might be a disappointing step backward.
So, if they want to avoid this trope, they should talk about the legend of the White Lady at the Union Cemetery in Easton, Connecticut. This case has a lot of potentials and hasn’t been talked about yet.
Even though they didn’t look into the White Lady directly, the Warrens say they have a video of it in action and have written a book about it.
There will be a fourth The Conjuring movie, but Warner Bros. hasn’t confirmed when it will come out. Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga have said they’d be willing to reprise their characters. Some of them could appear in the fourth, but that’s probably it. There is “definitely some talk of continuing,” Viggo Farmiga said in April 2021.
