The Town With Pep is coming to an end. The CW announced on Thursday, May 19, that Riverdale, a drama-mystery show based on Archie Comics characters like Archie Andrews, Betty Cooper, Veronica Lodge, Jughead Jones, and others, will end after its seventh season.
There have been rumors about the end of Riverdale for a long time. During an Instagram Live Q&A with fans in December 2021, Lili Reinhart, who plays Betty, hinted that season 7 might be the last. She said at the time, “We’re hoping for a seventh season, which will probably be the last.” “I didn’t tell you that.” Now that it’s official, Pop’s Diner will close its doors for good.
The show’s plots have taken us on some very unexpected trips, like time jumps, parallel universes, fake deaths, and sacrifices (yup, you read that right). We can’t wait to see how the complicated stories of the people who live in Riverdale end.
Here, we tell you everything you need to know about Riverdale’s seventh and last season, including when it will come out, what it will be about, and more.
When Will Season 7 of Riverdale Premiere?
The last one isn’t out yet, but according to The Hollywood Reporter, it will be in early 2023. But check back here, friends, because as soon as a release date is set, we’ll be sure to let you know.
How Many Episodes Are There in Season 7 of Riverdale?
At this point, the network hasn’t said how many episodes will be in the last season, but CW Chairman and CEO Mark Pedowitz said that there will be about the same number as in previous seasons. (Just so you know, there were 19 to 22 episodes in each of the last four seasons.)
“We haven’t said how many episodes there will be yet. But I don’t think the season will be cut short. “It goes back to what I said earlier: I’m a big believer in trying to give long-running shows a proper send-off,” the executive told Variety on Thursday.
“Yesterday, we talked for a long time with Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, who is in charge of the Riverdale show, and Archie Comics’ chief creative officer. Both of them are thrilled by this news. And we’ll give the show the respect it deserves.”
He went on to say that Riverdale is an “iconic pop culture star” and that everyone involved in this decision thought that ending the show after season seven is “what’s right.”

What Will Season 7 of Riverdale Be About?
Well, we know we’ll be in 1955 because Aguirre-Sacasa said so on Instagram and because the season 6 finale, in which Cheryl saved Riverdale from being destroyed and everyone woke up the day after James Dean died, took place in 1955.
Archie, Betty, and the rest of the gang are all back in high school as teenagers. Only Jughead remembers what Riverdale is like now. It’s not clear how long we’ll stay in the 1950s, but Aguirre-Sacasa promised fans that other storylines from season 6 will be addressed.
In an interview with Decider in July 2022, the showrunner said, “It is not a hard, complete break with what has come before.” “Everything that happened is clear in Jughead’s mind. And I think our characters have an emotional memory of what they’ve been through, whether they are aware of it or not… “It is still going on.”
Who Will Return to Riverdale for Season 7?
We do not yet have a confirmed cast list for season 7, but we anticipate that all of the main characters from season 6 will return for season 7. Therefore, we anticipate the return of the following:
- KJ Apa as Archibald “Archie” Andrews
- Lili Reinhart as Elizabeth “Betty” Cooper
- Camila Mendes as Veronica Lodge
- Cole Sprouse as Forsythe Pendleton “Jughead” Jones III
- Madelaine Petsch as Cheryl Blossom
- Casey Cott as Kevin Keller
- Charles Melton as Reginald “Reggie” Mantle
- Vanessa Morgan as Antoinette “Toni” Topaz
- Drew Ray Tanner as Fangs Fogarty
- Madchen Amick as Alice Smith
- Erin Westbrook as Tabitha Tate
Kiernan Shipka, who recently played Chilling Adventures of Sabrina’s Sabrina for a crossover, has hinted that she might come back for another guest role in season 7.
She said to Collider, “She does need to come back. I think they’ll need her help once more. For fun, I would say they should lean into the chaos as much as they can, work hard, and have faith that everything will work out, but at the end of the day, they should probably just call Sabrina again. To be honest, I think they’re going to need her.”
