One Piece Netflix – Release Date, Plot, Cast, and More

One Piece Netflix

Netflix’s Geeked Week 2022 event featured the live-action adaption of One Piece. We’re thrilled to share the latest news with you, including the addition of new cast members.

One Piece was first announced in January 2020, but there were no details about who would be in the cast, the plot, or when the series will be available on Netflix. Instead, all that was divulged was that the show is in the works and has Netflix’s support.

This was fantastic news for fans of the anime series since many had hoped to see the series turned into a live-action film. When there were no new updates on the show, however, the excitement gradually faded.

Now, in the year 2022, we’ve finally heard anything about this much-anticipated series.

When Will One Piece Be Released?

One Piece Netflix

Unfortunately, no official release date for this next Netflix original series has been disclosed. In South Africa, the cast has been hard at work bringing the world of One Piece to life.

That means it’s still under production and hasn’t finished filming yet. Given this information, it appears that the series will not be released on Netflix until 2023, most likely in the latter half of the year.

What Is the Plot of One Piece?

One Piece tells the narrative of Monkey D. Luffy, a young boy who aspires to be a pirate and whose body transforms into rubber after eating a Devil Fruit.

Luffy and his pirate crew, the Straw Hat Pirates, go on a magical quest in search of the famous “One Piece” treasure and the title of King of Pirates for Luffy.

Who is Cast in Netflix’s One Piece Series?

The primary cast of the Straw Hat Pirates was announced by Netflix in November 2021, led by Mexican actor Iaki Godoy (Who Killed Sara?) as lead protagonist Monkey D. Luffy.

Roronoa Zoro is played by Japanese actor Mackenyu (Rurouni Kenshin: Final Chapter, Pacific Rim: Uprising) while Nami is played by American actress Emily Rudd (Fear Street) in the upcoming live-action series.

Jacob Romero Gibson (Greenleaf) as Usopp and Taz Skylar (Boiling Point) as sanji round out the rest of the Straw Hat Pirates cast. Other notable characters, such Tony Tony Chopper, Nico Robin, Brook, the Black Cat Pirates, and others, are yet to be cast.

Six new cast members were added to the show’s roster on March 8, according to a Variety source. Morgan Davies (The Evil Dead: Rise), Ilia Isorels Paulino (The Sex Lives of College Girls), Aidan Scott (Between the Devil), Jeff Ward (Brand New Cherry Flavor), McKinley Belcher III (Ozark), and Vincent Regan are the most recent recruits (300, Troy).

Will the Netflix Adaptation of One Piece Follow the Same Plot as the Anime and Manga?

It’s unknown how far the Netflix version will change from the original One Piece manga and anime, if at all.

Despite the anime series having surpassed 1,000 episodes, Netflix has only ordered 10 for the first season of its adaptation. It’s safe to presume that the first season will focus mostly on the story’s opening chapters, with Luffy and the Straw Hat Pirates taking center stage.

How Many Episodes Will Netflix’s One Piece Series Contain?

Netflix purchased ten episodes for the first season of the show in January 2020, according to reports. The duration of each episode is yet to be revealed.

One Piece has long been a famous manga and anime series in Japan. The first volume of the manga was released in July 1997, and the first episode of the anime series aired in October 1999, gaining a devoted following that continues to this day.

With over 1,000 episodes of anime shown and 100 manga volumes produced, the One Piece brand has become one of the longest-running franchises in history, generating 14 animated features based on the series.
