Netflix Has Unveiled A Blumhouse Horror Film, ‘Mercy Black,’ Based On A True Story!


The Slenderman controversy and the U.K. Mary Bell child murderer case are used as inspiration for the Blumhouse horror film.

You, Netflix, are always a surprise. With the Blumhouse horror film Mercy Black, Netflix provided us with another ‘chilling’ treat on a typical Sunday for us Netflix enthusiasts. Despite the fact that it was a surprise, there had been several whispers about Netflix delivering a surprise for us, according to Movieweb.

Little did we know that the film was written and directed by Austin writer-director Owen Egerton (Follow, Blood Fest), which is inspired in part by the Slenderman controversy and the U.K.’s Mary Bell child murderer case.

‘I’m trying to scare myself with concepts and moments,’ says Egerton, who was interviewed recently about the film. He said, ‘It’s the tale of a woman who stabbed a classmate 15 years ago. ‘The phantom of Mercy Black needed to be conjured through the murder of her two children,’ she explained.

She’s only just emerged from a mental institution and may possibly be cured, yet she’s starting to see things that she never thought she’d see again.

‘Ultimately, the creature becomes a viral sensation, even her young nephew is captivated by Mercy Black, and she must face what she’s done for the first time ever.

It all started with Egerton meeting the Blumhouse team, particularly Jason Blum for the Mercy Black project. The pair sought a thriller that would terrify the audience without resorting to jump scares.

As well, the director feels he was successful in frightening the audience with his characters, who became emotionally invested in the people.
