About “Fleetwood Mac”
British-American rock band Fleetwood Mac formed in London in 1967. Peter Green and Jeremy Spencer on guitar and vocals, and Mick Fleetwood on drums formed Fleetwood Mac. Before John McVie permanently joined the band, Bob Brunning filled in on bass guitar for their self-titled debut album.
In 1968, Danny Kirwan joined as a vocalist and third guitarist. Christine Perfect, keyboardist and vocalist who had been a session musician since the band’s second album, married McVie in 1970 and officially became a member of the band under her married name.
Fleetwood Mac, formerly a British blues band, had a number-one UK song with “Albatross”, as well as other hits like “Oh Well,” “Man of the World,” and “The Green Manalishi.”
Guitarist Bob Welch, singer Dave Walker, and guitarist Bob Weston succeeded Green, Spencer, and Kirwan in quick succession in the early 1970s. Neither a male vocalist nor a guitarist was present in the band by 1974, when Welch, Weston, and Walker had all either left voluntarily or been fired.

Songs like “Edge of Seventeen” appeared on that album. Buckingham shattered a record that had been in the top ten for quite some time. However, despite more personnel shifts, original members Fleetwood, John McVie, Christine McVie, Buckingham, and Nicks all returned for the concerts.

Buckingham left the band in 2018 after being requested to do so. Nicks, a former member of the band, issued an ultimatum that ultimately led to his departure. In several interviews, Buckingham has made it clear that he has no aversion to going back.
He and Mick Fleetwood have had numerous conversations over the years about the possibility of him rejoining the band. For this reason, the band is staying together despite its members’ previous statements that they did not intend to pursue solo careers.
Why Did Fleetwood Mac Hate Each Other?
The adage “don’t mix business with pleasure” is well-known. Well, Fleetwood Mac utterly disregarded that idea during their zenith of fame, and the band members’ varied affairs with one another led to anger and hostility among its members that resonated for decades and helped generate some of their most renowned songs.
In the first place, there’s the famous duo of Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham. According to the Los Angeles Times, Lindsey requested Stevie to join Fleetwood Mac while they were dating, but the couple broke up about the time that the band recorded “Rumours” in 1977.
In what way? Subtle digs at each other throughout the record. Consider the Lindsey songs “Second Hand News,” “Never Going back Again,” and “Go Your Way” which were all written about Stevie. She also dedicated a song to him titled “Dreams.”
Following that incident, Stevie began having an affair with the band’s original member, Mick Fleetwood. Later, in an interview for Oprah’s Master Class, Stevie detailed the scenario and its drawbacks.
In her own words, “Mick and I would never have had an affair had we not had a party and all been drunk, messed up, and coked out and, you know, ended up being the last two people at the party.”

She continued, “Oh, and did you know what? One need not be a genius to deduce that whatever transpired was not beneficial. That plan was doomed from the start. It was destined to fail, brought suffering to everyone involved, and accomplished nothing.”
Christine and John McVie provided the group with a pre-formed couple. In 1973, the couple had trouble getting along since Christine was having an affair with the band’s sound engineer, Martin Birch. Even though Christine and John did not immediately break up after Martin’s dismissal, there were underlying difficulties between them.
Was Drug Use Also Blamed for Some of the Problems Inside Fleetwood Mac?
Putting aside the romantic conflicts that arose between the members of Fleetwood Mac, narcotics were a major contributor to the band’s internal strife.
Christine may have hinted at this in her 1984 interview with Rolling Stone: “It’s as if she’s created her alternate reality, and I have no place in it. There isn’t a lot of mingling amongst us.”

That problem predated Stevie, too. Mick remarked on the band’s drug problems in 2021, in an interview with Classic Rock magazine “Yes, we had enough of marching powder. That’s an old fairy tale that’s been blown up and made to seem like a military epic. And I’m not trying to downplay the reality that we were actively engaging in that culture.”
Later, Mick elaborated, “Stevie Nicks has talked about that for quite some time, so I won’t be adding any new information to the discussion. After the filming of “Rumors,” things began to spiral out of control. Period two years, I do not recall working. I have no idea what I did.”
Fleetwood Mac’s frantic time together unquestionably resulted in some of the most renowned songs of the 20th century, despite the band’s share of romantic and drug-related difficulties during their time.
