As the ‘Grease’ prequel film gets ready to shoot, a new director has been hired.

Filmmaker Brett Haley is now attached to direct Summer Lovin’.

The Grease Prequel is now closer to reality after the appointment of a new director.

The first spin-off, Summer Lovin’, will be directed by Brett Haley and officially titled. Haley has already made a name for himself in the independent film world, and this will be his first major opportunity with major studio production. ‘I’ll See You in My Dreams,’ ‘The Hero,’ ‘Hearts Beat Loud,’ and ‘All The Bright Places’ are some of his works.

The first Grease film, released in 1978, starred John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John. It was based on a 1971 musical by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey, which is now regarded as an all-time classic favorite.

In 2016, Grease- Live was released as a live TV musical adaptation of the stage classic. It features Julianne Hough, Vanessa Hudgens, Aaron Tveit, and Keke Palmer. It became a smashing success, with a 92 percent approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. To top it off, the three-hour-long musical adaptation won five Emmys.

The huge appeal of the 2016 TV musical adaption prompted the creation of Summer Lovin’, which will be released in 2020.

The sequel will follow Danny and Sandy as children, focusing on the summer before Danny and Sandy met at the same institution.

On the beach in the original film, John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John, who played Danny and Sandy in the 1978 film, met. The film’s major portion, however, was set at the high school where Danny and Sandy ultimately fall in love.

After years of rumors, negotiations, and false starts, AMC has finally chosen a director for the project. Now that one has been selected, we should expect to hear casting news soon.
