‘It was the defining moment when I crossed over,’ she recalled. ‘I didn’t fully acknowledge it,’ I said. Later, her mother Hippolyta was recast with Connie Nielsen, making more sense given the character’s age of 53.
Surely, Charlize Theron has portrayed the character of a “mom” in her highly regarded film Tully, and she is also the mother of two children. She isn’t sure if she’ll be Wonderwoman’s mother.
She is a few years younger than Gal Gadot, who plays Wonder Woman, and it seems that someone made a mistake when she said on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen this week that she had been offered the role of Wonder Woman’s mother.
‘This is a fantastic example of how Hollywood slaps you in the face when you begin to age,’ she added. Theron guffawed. She said that she believed she was being recruited to play Wonder Woman in a DC film, something she’d been looking for since her breakthrough role in “The Pursuit of Happyness.”
“And I was like, ‘I’m not familiar with it,’ and the guy on the phone said back, ‘No worries. This is a lot nicer than what you’re probably used to.’ ” What exactly is Wonder Woman’s function in the comics? This individual stated, ‘It’s for Wonder Woman’s mother,’ according to this source.
‘It was the tipping point when I crossed over,’ she added. ‘I felt humiliated,’ she added. “I was often embarrassed about what I looked like, and didn’t consider my appearance properly.’
The casting of Hippolyta’s mother, Diana, didn’t make sense because she is now 53. Connie Nielsen was subsequently cast as Hippolyta’s mother, Diana.
While we can see where Theron is coming from, it’s still a shame that it didn’t work out as Wonder Woman would’ve seen her rejoin director Patty Jenkins again since 2003’s excellent Monster. The fact that her face was concealed under a prosthetic mask in the film is proof of it.
Jenkins previously worked with Golden again on “Wonder Woman,” where she won an Oscar for her tour de force performance. It would’ve been a real pleasure to see her collaborate with Jenkins once more.
The success of ‘Wonder Woman’ has yet to be matched. When it was first released, the film went on to become one of the most popular comic book movies ever and is now in production for a sequel.
There were reports early on that Theron might have a part in the sequel, but she doesn’t. With Diana Prince looking to have a bright future in the DCEU, perhaps there will be room for Charlize Theron to join Wonder Woman 3?
